Summer Reading Entry 4

After reading the book My Heartbeat by Garrett Freymann-weyr, I did not regret picking this book one bit. I'd chosen this book for a couple reasons. At first when I was looking through the books, I couldn't seem to find a book that really interested me so one night I was asking friends if they'd started their summer reading and one of my friends said she was reading this book and that it was actually really good. She was telling me what it was about and it sounded good. Another reason is because I liked the plot of it when I heard about it, as my friend was describing what it was about, I thought to myself it seems like a book you don't want to put down. I was really interested in how the book was going to be towards the homosexual community because I have seem how some people react to it in real life and it isn't a good outcome at times.

I would recommend this book so anyone who likes a book more on the realistic side and more on the dramatic side. Not to mention there's also a little romance in the book as well. I think that many people can relate to this book, when I was reading it there were multiple times where I would think to myself yeah I've seen that happen, or yeah I can see why they reacted to that in a certain way. I enjoyed this book tons, so I believe anyone who enjoys dramatics and realistic books would also enjoy this book.

Summer Reading Entry 3

"'They're like a couple, aren't they?' Aden asks.
I ask where her brother goes to school and if she has any other siblings, and we stay off the topic of how very much like a couple Link and James are. A couple. Is that what they are? Is this what explains why I have spent so much time with them without ever knowing them?" (Freymann-weyr 33).

I chose this section of the book My Heartbeat by Garrett Freymann-weyr because it's the part of the book where everything starts coming together. To give a little background information, Link and Ellen or siblings and James is Link's best friend (at least that's what Ellen thinks). She'd always seen them together and fighting but she always thought it was a best friend thing, she'd never look at them as a couple. That is until a girl from school mentioned the thought. Ellen wasn't sure on whether to believe it or not. It would make complete sense to her if it was true, but she didn't wanna ask her brother because he was never the type of guy to open up and show emotion. Ellen is starting to question Link and James but she's not the only one, Link as well is questioning it. I don't want to give too much away, but I believe that this section of the book is a very important, almost an "ah ha" moment in the book.

Summer Reading Entry 2

In my book My Heartbeat by Garrett Freymann-weyr, we have met the 3 main characters. First we have Ellen, sister of Link and a Freshman in high school. She doesn't have much interest in school, you could call her the slacker of her and Link. However she's very clever and always knows what to say and what not to say. She's always hanging out with Link and James. She's had a major crush on James since middle school. James is a senior in high school, the type of senior who has a fake ID (but he never gets carded cause he looks old enough) and drinks and smokes. The kid whose parents are almost always somewhere other then home, he's typicaly home alone and has a weird love for foreign movies with english subtitles. As I have mentioned before, James is Links best friend, but it's only recently that Ellen has thought maybe they're more then friends. Link is the guy who has his parents up his in school. He's a straight A student and a wizz in math (he skipped 3rd grade because he knew how to simplify fractions and do long division in his head). He's also not the guy who talks too much, especially when it comes to his relationship with James. I feel there could be many themes to this book, but I feel like one of the more powerful ones are that one shouldn't be afraid to express who they really are. James isn't afraid, however Link on the other hand is, he's scared of what people will say and what his father with say but he doesn't want to admit that. This book is structured in a very clever way where the reader never wants to stop reading. It seems like something always happens in each chapter so there's never a dull moment. There have also been many good points made in this book about being homosexual that make you think about what kind of world we live in. I'm excited to read on and see what ends up happening with this love triangle.

Summer Reading Entry 1

For my summer reading, I have chosen to read the book My Heartbeat by Garrett Freymann-weyr. The book revolves around brother and sister Ellen (freshman in high school) and Link (Senior in high school), along with Links' best friend James. However it seems that James and Link may be more then friends. To Ellen this may be a tragedy considering she's been madly in love with James since middle school, but she'd never thought about them being a couple despite all the time they spend together. She only got the idea when a friend of hers comes up to her at school and asks her if her brother and James were a couple, and she quite frankly didn't know how to answer. Instead of directly asking them, Ellen decides to ask her mother first and if she had anything against it. Her mom had nothing to say other then as long as Link was happy, her father on the other hand is a different story. Ellen later asks both Link and James if they were a couple (attempting to stay away from the word "gay" around Link) Link being a man of few words has nothing much to say on the subject and refuses to talk about it with Ellen. I see where Link is coming from about not wanting to come out of the closet with a world with people who can be very judgmental and hateful (which is something that is seen too often in today) however I predict that Link will later learn to express his true feelings.

Most Important Part of this Chapter

To start off, im gonna sort of change this prompt from most important to my favorite part of this chapter. Through the book Let Me Off At The Top, Burgundy has been having an argument with his neighbor because he let him borrow his blowdryer and Ron thinks that he hasnt given it back. He had his blowdryer for months "without giving it back" and Ron secretly hated him. Until he went into his garage to see his blowdryer, just sitting there. With a note stuck on it. Dated back to a month ago. Turns out, his neighbor did give him his blowdryer back, and he gave it back THE SAME DAY HE LET HIM BORROW IT! I found this to be my favorite part of the book because through out the entire book he rants because he hasnt gotten his dryer back, but turns out he had it the entire time. Oh, the irony.

Letter to the Author

Dear Ron Burgundy/Will Ferrell,
I am a huge fan of yours. I believe you are a comedic genius and the best in the business. Ron Burgundy, you are an amazing spokes person. And Will Ferrell, you are my favorite male actor, and now my favorite author too. This book was one of the best books I have ever read. Probably because I'm not really into reading that much, and this book was different. It's a book that you have to really think about and put peices together, all you have to do is read it and enjoy. I appreciate this book because it has made me notice that there are books out there for everyone, I know it sounds cliche but its true. Its just a matter of finding a book that you like and that's your type of writing. In my opinion I loved the book Let me off at the Top and I suggest this book to everyone who wants a funny read.

Best and Worst Qualities of Ron Burgundy

However Ron Burgundy is a man known for being hilarious and a legend,  he also has his faults. His cockiness may some day get him in trouble or his mouth. I believe that one of his worst qualities is the fact that he doesn't always think through what he's going to say next. He's one of those guys who doesn't seem to have a filter. For example he says things like "Our babies have gotten uglier. I don't know why this is but you can't deny it's happening". Along with him being cocky, he has an extremely high self-confidence and cares about his image a lot such as when he says "its no big deal but I'm taller than the guys on the team. I look shorter because I'm kneeling down. If you look, you can tell that my knees are bent. Clearly I'm not standing straight". He is all about his image, but I guess you could say it's what makes him Ron Burgundy. On the other hand, it's obvious to tell that he is an extremely funny guy.

Why was this Book Written?

Let me off at the Top: My Classy life and Other Mussing is a book meant to entertain. This book is not meant to be taken seriously. It's a book for those who want a funny and relaxing book (not to mention, Will Ferrell fans). Plenty jokes, very random, and humorous all around. This book was written to make people laugh and smile. I personally am enjoying this book very much, I'm not one who likes reading. Especially those super long lengthy boring books, and this book is the complete opposite of that! It's not too long, and it's hilarious. This is of those fun-to-read books, its very enjoyable and a very interesting book. However this book should not be recommended to those of a young age. I suggest this book to anyone and everyone, everyone could use some humor in their lives. And what better way to laugh and have a good time then by the one and only Ron Burgundy. Lighten up your day and laugh a little. And as always, "Stay classy San Diego".

Conversation I would like to have with a Character: Ron Burgundy

Ron Burgundy. Who wouldn't  want to have a conversation with him? He's a complete stud and he's hilarious. Now I would say what I would want to have a conversation with him about, but knowing his personality, i'm pretty sure we wouldn't stay on that topic for long. He gets off topic very easily and he doesn't have a filter sometimes. And other times I'm pretty sure he just says the first thing that comes to his mind and the most random things too. In his book he's gone from the chapter "The Book From Haggleworth" to "My Hair" to "Our Lady Queen of Chewbacca". He's a hilarious author and I would love to have a talk with him about, well, about Ron Burgundy. Who is Ron Burgundy, his life story, things like that. I'd imagine an interesting conversation and I honestly wouldn't know what to expect. You never know what's going to come out of Burgundy's mouth, but whatever comes out, always ends up being funny.

Krista Ramsey Introduction Activity

In Ramsey's blog about legos, she is saying how adults are willing to spend hundreds or even thousands of dollars on lego for their kids. Why would they spend this much? Simply to get some quiet and to have there kids occupied for a couple of hours. Ramsey also says "all those wonderful things that adults want kids to master but never let them learn on their own – process, trial-and-error, deduction, elimination – chaos will turn to order." she's saying how the legos show life lessons that kids don't usually learn that will help them later on in life. 
The words that Ramsey uses makes her post sound so positive and fun other than it just being boring and formal facts. Words like "wonderful" "bright yellow bag" or even "humble". When she uses these words to describe legos, they sound amazing rather than describing them as "colored blocks that make a mess". Her paragraphs are also fairly small and short, not too lengthy. This attracts more readers because nobody wants to sit and reader long paragraphs, if the reader sees short friendly paragraphs, they are more likely to read them. 
If i were to meet Krista Ramsey i would ask her where she gets the ideas on what to write about. She does an amazing job writing about different genres to interest all kinds of people. I would also ask her if she enjoys her job of just going around and writing about what's going on. 

Why I Chose This Book: (Ron Burgundy Let me off at the Top: My Classy Life & Other Mussings)

I picked to read the book Ron Burgundy Let me off at the Top: My Classy Life & Other Mussings by Ron Burgundy and Will Ferrell. One of the reasons as to why I chose this book is because Will Ferrell is one of my favorite actors from being Brennan from Step Brothers, to Ricky Bobby in Talladega Nights. He is extremely funny and unpredictable. Another reason to why I chose this book was because before this book I read The Fault in our Stars by John Green and that was a sad, but happy at the same time book. I wanted to read something a little bit more fun and not as serious. I'm looking forward to reading this book and getting a good laugh out of it.

Final Blog Reflections

I believe that my best blog was my blog on The Fault in our Stars: Finished Review. This is my best post because it tells you how Hazel has grown through out the book. This post also shows how the author, John Green got his inspiration to write this book. This blog post shows that i really got into this book and really enjoyed it. I looked up the background information  on how John Green was inspired to write this book and i was fasinated on how he was inspired. I am also very excited on the fact that they are making a movie out of this book, and i plan on going to see it when it comes out this summer.

For next tri, I plan on being a better reader by being more organised with mt blog and when i read. I would like to improve on my reading habits, and not just putting blogging and reading to the side. I would also like to pick better books that i actually like, unlike the past couple years when i would just pick a book to have a book. This year i have actually been books that look interesting. In writing, i would like to improve on putting more detail into my writing and using TIQA more often. I really struggled with keeping up with mt blog post, comments, and reading. I overcame this by just sitting down with no distraction and focusing on my blog. A strength i had this tri, was i was really good with Romeo and Juliet and keeping up and understanding.

The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas

After reading The Fault in our Stars, I was searching for another book like that because the book really got my attention. Then I came across the book The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas. a book taking place during the Holocaust. I find the Holocaust as a very interesting time, it's very brutal and horrible but I find it Fascinating. I did some research on the book, and turns out that there is a movie. I watched the movie and it was amazing, the ending is sad but I don't want to give away any spoilers. This book is about an 8 year old German boy who makes friends with an 8 year old Jewish boy. Even though there friends, The little Jewish kid can't go out to play and the little German kid can't understand as to why he can't.

The author, John Boyne, Wrote this book in a matter of 2 and a half days with almost not sleep. With in 2 months of the book being released, it had sold over 5 million copies worldwide. Here in the U.S. the book was published as The Boy in the Striped Pajamas using the correct English spelling considering the author was from Ireland. I'm expecting this to be a good book. Has anyone read this book? If so, what's your opinion on it?

The Fault in our Stars: Finished Review

I finished reading my book The Fault in our Stars and it was probably one of the best books I have ever read. The way that the Author was building up Hazel, was amazing. Hazel started off as this girl who didn't want to go to this Group, but then she sees a boy which keeps her to going to this group and being more out there. This is a book that you don't want to miss out on. John Green did an amazing job with this book and i was curious as to how he got his inspiration. Turns out, Green got his inspiration for this book when he went a cancer center and was upset with all the kids dying at such a young age. Green did a great job with making the book sad, romantic, and funny at the same time.

As i was reading the book I was wondering if there was a movie. So i checked and I got so excited knowing that they were making a film out of this book. Now i'm just wondering if there going to mess it up and it worse than the book or better. I plan on reading this book again right before i see the movie just to compare them. I rate this book as a 5 star book and recommend it to anyone who likes the elements of comedy, some sadness, and romance.

The Fault in Our Stars: Important Line

In Chapter 10, Augustus says something to Hazel. They're on the plane and on there way to Amsterdam and they are watching a movie. Without hesitation and out of no where, Augustus tells Hazel that he loves her. Hazel's shocked because she doesn't want to go out with him because she doesn't want to hurt his feelings. Hazel simply doesn't say anything back to him.

This move wasn't shocking because it was obvious that they both like each other. However Hazel's reaction was kind of shocking by not saying anything back and just leaving him saying hes in love with her. i was expecting Hazel to say she loved him back, but she didn't say anything. I predict that the 2 of them will get closer at Amsterdam and that Hazels feelings will change for Augustus.

The Fault in Ours Stars: Chapters 6-8

A lot has happened in these couple of chapters. in chapter 6, Hazel was invited to go to Amsterdam and her mom tells her that she doesn't have to go to the support group anymore. In Chapter 7 Hazel wakes up with a massive headache, Hazel's rushed to the hospital. They find out that she does NOT have a brain tumor however she does have some sort of fluid in her lungs, meaning she needs to get her lungs drained. In Chapter 8 Hazel asks one of the doctors if she could go to Amsterdam, and some of them were saying no. Hazel gets a call from Augustus which is when she tells him that she can't go to Amsterdam. she later calls him again and shes crying because shes depressed that she can't go. The next morning she gets an email from Van Houten's (the one planning the trip) saying that the trip is all set and ready for Amsterdam. She tells her mother about how everything is ready and her ends up letting her go.

I enjoyed reading these chapters because it kept me on my toes. Hazel wakes up with the headache and is taken to the hospital where she finds out she needs to get her lungs drained. She also finds out that she maybe not going go Amsterdam, however in the end her mom tells her that she is allowed to go. I'm not sure about what to expect for the rest of the book or what is going to happen at Amsterdam.
